Welcome to Cycling Scotland

Cycling to School

We're asking drivers to give kids cycle space in the Cycle Friendly Zones

Welcome to Cycling Scotland's Guide to Cycling to School

This online guide to cycling to school has been created to support Cycling Scotland's campaign to get more children cycling to school. Cycling Scotland has created Cycle Friendly Zones around schools in Renfrewshire, Fife, South Ayrshire, North Ayrshire and East Ayshire, where drivers are being asked to give kids cycle space, so that children can make a safe and pleasant journey to school by bike.

Cycle Friendly Schools

Cycling Scotland has launched a new scheme to encourage cycling to school. The Cycle Friendly School Award is a new scheme that recognises schools that provide all the required infrastructure for cycling, and provide incentives and promotion to encourage pupils to do it. Find out more here.

5 Reasons to Cycle to school

1. It's fun – Cycling is one of the most popular activities in Scotland whether mountainbiking, BMX-ing or going places.

2. It puts you in control – no more waiting for a bus or a lift, go where you want when you want.

3. It's good for you - part of your physical activity for the day

4. Its good for the environment – doesn’t use fossil fuels, produce greenhouses gases or pollution

5. It's quicker and cheaper – you can travel 4x as far or quick by bike as you can walking, and you don’t have bus fares or fuel bills to pay.
